The Contributions of Healthcare Providers in Various Departments of Healthcare For a long time, I have consulted widely and researched on the contributions of healthcare providers in various departments of healthcare. Over the years, my interest of becoming part of these great professionals has been growing increasingly. Of particular interest has been Nursing. This has led me to pursue a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. I now have a strong desire of pursuing a Master of Nursing Program, particularly on Health and Illness of Individuals and Communities. 1. The thought of pursuing graduate studies in Nursing came to me in my third year of Nursing program. During my last two years in Nursing school, I always had graduate studies in Nursing at the back of my mind. In my third year in Nursing school, I went for a clinical placement during which I immensely enjoyed working in the community, teaching what I had learnt. This undertaking gave me invaluable experience. I believe that pursuing graduate studies in Nursing would allow me to gain better understanding and knowledge necessary in supporting patients in both community and hospital settings. 2. Upon reviewing the information related to the field of Leadership in Health Care Policy and Education and the field of Health and Illness of Individuals and Communities, I believe that the latter would be most suitable as it would enable me achieve my goals of developing advanced knowledge in Nursing. This knowledge would be vital in enabling me to enhance and promote the health of individuals, families, communities and populations. The field of Health and Illness of Individuals and Communities would prepare me for a career path in community Nursing as well as open a door for me should I decide to pursue a career as a clinical nurse specialist. 3. My academic background has laid a solid foundation for my enrolment for a Nursing program – I hold a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from Ryerson University. During my studies, I got well equipped with immense knowledge that would be of great help as I advance on to graduate studies in Nursing. In addition, my previous experiences in community setting such as the experience I gained from teaching in a middle school have prepared me for this program. Here, I had the responsibility of assessing the learning needs of grade six and seven students in relation to self-esteem and body image as well as planning and implementing a program that would raise their awareness of current self-esteem and body image issues that face majority of today's teenagers. With the help and support of public health nurses in the area and guidance from my faculty advisor, I was able to formulate an appropriate program for the particular age group and the community where the school is located. Since graduation from Nursing school, I have been working full time in a surgical oncology unit where I deal with surgical patients with varying degrees of complications. In the unit, I have been working closely with various clinical nurse specialists in planning and implementing patients’ care as well as assisting patients and families to manage their conditions. This exposure has made me develop into a dynamic and resourceful person with interpersonal and negotiation skills, an outstanding team player, open minded and excellent in networking. I have also developed into an approachable and sociable person. I believe that pursuing graduate studies in Nursing would give me the chance to sharpen these skills further and increase my knowledge in Nursing. I have no misgivings that this exposure will greatly influence my performance in my course of study. 4. Attaining a Masters degree in Nursing would open more presently closed doors in my career path. My career objective is to ensure high performance in my Nursing profession to the best of my interest as well as that of the entire society by employing my professional skills governed by integrity and accountability for progressive competence. Becoming a clinical nurse specialist would allow me to work in a hospital environment where I would not only provide treatment to patients but also create awareness by providing new knowledge and practices to other nurses and providing education and resources to patients and families. My strong desire to put a smile on a patient is enough to make me go an extra mile and take extra hours to ensure that I excel in Master of Nursing Program. With both the aforementioned education and working experiences, I believe that I stand an advantageous position to qualify to pursue this Program. I aspire to become a nurse practitioner – enrolling in a nurse practitioner program would provide me with more opportunities of working in community settings. I would really be grateful if I get the opportunity of pursuing a Master of Nursing Program, as it would enable me to serve and interact with humanity in a better way. It would also give me the chance that I have been longing for – to fulfill my dreams and achieve my goals in life. This would also give me the opportunity of watching my ambitions and career objectives come to reality. Most importantly, it would give me the chance of increasing my knowledge in Nursing and improving the quality of life in many individuals as well as enabling them to enjoy good health, thus living longer and fuller lives. In addition, this opportunity would give me more hands on experience and the exposure that I would get from interacting with more experts as I study would enable me be the best I can be in this field. My hard work, curiosity, open mind together with my attention to details, willingness to learn and strong desire to excel will be important assets as I study. With the support that I would get from my supervisors, well-equipped laboratories, excellent training and the extra effort I intend to put on my studies; I believe that this opportunity will make me excel in my profession.
