? Team Participation - Scenario Analysis Rather than changing teams, would it have been better to complete the assignment individually? Would an individual paper been better than putting your name on a project in which in which you had no creative insight or participation? Is this ethical? Teams play quite an imperative role in an organization as well as in the personal lives. Generally a team refers to a group of people working together to achieve common goals and objectives (Fines, 2012). In the present scenario, team effort has become an essential key or a tool for the corporate world in order to reach the predetermined goals. Team creation and development often offers an efficient environment which is considered to be ideal for encouraging teamwork, cooperation and motivation within the team members to greatly contribute towards the organization by delivering their best possible performances (The Team Building Directory, 2011). Conceptually, it would be tough for any individual to attain goals without team cooperation. It is considered essential for an individual to discuss and evaluate the pros and cons of his/her plan with the other individuals as in certain situations the rationality of a single individual or brain may fail in terms of making the correct decision (Project Smart, 2012). Thus, being in a team helps an individual to learn skills and talent of the teammates. With reference to the mentioned question it can be stated that an individual paper would have been better rather than just mentioning one’s name in a project which had no contribution of that individual. Contributing towards a project not only helps in developing confidence but also makes an individual aware regarding his/her capabilities. Joining a team and contributing nothing can be stated to be morally unethical. Once an individual becomes the part of the team, he/she must contribute towards the common goal which needs to be collectively attained as much as possible. Indulging in such activities which are considered to be unethical makes an individual lose his/her confidence regarding one’s competencies and skills. How is the importance of a team and its dynamics? The success of any organization largely depends on its ability to build an effective team. A single individual or an employee cannot perform all the responsibilities of the organization single handedly. Effective team in an organization motivates and creates cordial relation among the team members and enables them to perform their task efficiently (The Team Building Directory, 2011). It is equally important for the team members lucidly comprehend the responsibilities assigned to each members. In addition to this there also needs to exist a proper form of communication between the teammates in order to avoid the occurrence of conflicts among them. The different concepts and thoughts of the team members can be combined to reach the best suited decision which shall ultimately benefit the organization (Rosen, 2011). What are the benefits of being assigned to a team rather than picking the members of your team or volunteering to join a team? Being assigned to a team gives an opportunity to an individual to learn from its team members and acquire new skills. Volunteering to join a team may disturb the balance of the already existing team and may lead to conflicts between the new member and the existing members. Moreover, the role of each member is already assigned and the introduction of a new member may require the team leader to reassign the responsibilities among the team members which might prove to be cumbersome and may delay the particular project. Thus, being assigned to a team creates a sense of responsibility within the members and such accountability is found to motivate the team members to perform their assigned tasks efficiently. Moreover, an individual learns to work in groups and to accept greater responsibilities. An individual gets motivated by other teammates to work even in case of adverse situations. Thus, working in a team as a member teaches an individual the leadership techniques and other valuable skills which are supposed to be greatly useful for an individual in his/ her professional as well as in public life (Rosen, 2011). What is the down-side of being assigned to a team rather than picking the members or volunteering? An individual may find the assigned task to be difficult and may possess limited skills and competence for the designated job role. An individual might also prove to be incapable of creating better cooperation and communication within the team which might even lead to instigation of misunderstanding among the team members. One may require a greater amount of time to cope with the new circumstances. Moreover, due to the intense work pressure and lack of confidence an individual may even quit the job which could create grave problems with regard to the other team members (Project Smart, 2012). An individual may feel like a burden on the other team members and may also witness complexities in mingling with the already existing team members. Discuss business teams and the relationship to the success of an organization? Collective efforts of a team can attain more in comparison to individual or personal efforts. It has been often referred in this context that two hands are better than a single one. The recent business environment is known to be undergoing a constant alteration which is augmenting the degree of complexity with regard to the businesses. Owing to such complications or difficulties it is becoming increasingly imperative for the organizations to develop and perform its duties rapidly and in a better manner than its existing competitors. The attainment of all these objectives greatly calls for the requirement of team formulation by the organizations in order to discharge the responsibilities and attain the goals effectually with a group effort rather than individual endeavors (Fines, 2012). Moreover, an effective team motivates the employees and develops a sense of cooperation among the employees. Team building creates cordial relationships and reduces the chances of conflict in between the members thus, ensuring the smooth functioning of the organizations. A newly recruited employee with inadequate skill can be included in a group of efficient team members in order to hone his skills and knowledge for building other efficient teams in future. Discuss what makes a team successful Building a successful team is not regarded as an easy task as it requires careful selection of the individuals with required skills with respect to the purpose for which the team is being built. The selected individuals needs possessing enthusiasm in order to become a part of the team and must cooperate with other teammates to ensure successful functioning of the group efforts. In addition to this, team leaders also play a significant role towards the success of a particular team. The team leaders must be impartial while dealing with the other team members and capable of directing the combining the efforts of the team for the successful accomplishment of the established goals. Furthermore, he/she must be capable of motivating and building confidence among the team members even in adverse circumstances (Cornell University, 2010). Another important component necessary for the successful functioning of a team has been identified to be the existence of an effectual form of communication between the teammates. Roles to be performed by each member should also be properly communicated to the team members in order to avoid any kind of conflicts and confusion between the teammates. Why teams (in business) do fail? At times it has often been observed that despite of the best possible attempts made by the organizations and the team members, the contribution of the entire team proves to be inadequate in realizing the organizational objectives. There are known to subsist several reasons for such inadequacies of the business teams. One of the chief factors among those has been measured to be the unclear communication of the goal by the business team to its members. Very often the members of teams focus on the personal objectives and prove unsuccessful in relating their objectives with the organizational goals. Another reason may be the lack of proper leadership skills in managing the team efforts and guiding them towards the desire direction. The leadership style chosen may also hamper the team performance in the form of greater or lesser degree of autonomy provided to the team members. At times envious feelings may prevent the team members to cooperate and communicate with the other teammates which may further overshadow the organizational goals and lead to the failure of the team efforts in attaining the organizational aims. Define team leadership versus being a role player. Explain how both are important and why? An effectual form of leadership is essential for the successful functioning of teams and for achieving the goals or the purposes for which the team has been formulated. It is the leader who identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the team members and exerts efforts to enhance skills and knowledge among the team members. Team leader can be regarded as the role player but role player cannot be termed as the team leader. A leader effectively motivates and inspires the team members to perform in their best possible manner. It is the team leaders who channelizes the endeavors of the team members and guides them towards the needed direction (Culture Wizard, 2010). The combined efforts of the team leaders and team members have been identified to be the factors which could ensure successful outcomes of those exerted attempts. Without efficient and skilled team members it will be impossible for the team leaders to attain the established goals.
