How Leaders Should Utilize Groups Introduction Everyone may think of wanting to have changes within any crooked setting, but it takes one, commonlyknown as the leader, who will pursue, lead and make others realize the need, not just to think of wanting to acquire a change, but to act and move to have it. The willingness to serve and the deep sense of empowering others make every leader different from passive individuals who would rather stay within their comfort zone than create change. This paper gives an outline of things that a leader can do during the times when he/she is to utilize groups. It is necessary to note that this paper was in accordance to a previously conducted interview. Interviewee’s Background Information Serving for ten years as a director of a noted public elementary school in [location of the client], [Name of the Director] has been utilizing groups, since it is part of her job to direct students, teachers and all school personnel towards the vision and goals of the school. It will be unlikely to see someone who has been tasked to lead a school yet he/she did not experience managing people. However, being able to make others perceive her ability in making crucial decisions, expressing a sound judgment, exercising an authoritative mandate, creating good and wonderful activities for the school and feeling genuinely empathic towards every individual’s undertaking, have made her experienced managing people. She dared herself in pursuing such endeavors since she believed she is to be challenged in order, not just to engage herself with various people, but to have that sense of purpose in life. Reasons behind the Interview Aside from seeing a connection between the school director’s endeavors and of my future career, the reason I have chosen to conduct an interview with her is because I believe that the realizations I can get out from analyzing this interview will help me in making myself, not just to fulfill and do the same, but also to become a good leader like her. Moreover, among other organizations, schools have been using their vast human resources in order to operate well, making them a great example of knowing how to utilize groups effectively. Her experiences in utilizing groups within the school system are also helpful in showing how leaders should utilize groups in an organization. Choosing the right person to interview and securing that the interviewee should come from a trusted organization are all crucial in the making of this paper. Interviewee’s Experiences The long years she had been doing the tasks of a director have made her a true expert of the field. Her secret of successfully maintaining her job is, first, to plan. As shown in the effectiveness of yearly undertakings of the school, she had been an excellent planner. Annually, directors are to submit a program plan for the school to follow. The plan includes specific instructions, performance, and target outcomes, emphasis of special areas in producing a holistic year, and even the integration of technology and other modern tools to achieve the school’s goals easily. With this ability to plan follows the ability to implement, not just to stop in making plans. She has transformed her plans into reality when she carefully designates tasks to subordinates within the school’s organization. Being the head of the school, she gives direct orders to the head of different offices, all year-level leaders, faculty of teachers, aid and assisting maintenance of the school, security and safety management team, mandated and equally-treated students and respective parents of students. This is where she is to utilize groups, and her ability to designate all the tasks to all groups proves her efficacy in utilizing people. The School System In any school system, it is the director who utilizes certain groups. He/She is to oversee how diverse groups can get. The diversity of a group depends on the school system’s population. For instance, if the school is small, there can be lesser groups compared to big schools of large populations. Groups are utilized when there is a need to manage people effectively, showing an organized utilization of groups. Consequently, an effective management [*what] utilizes the groups well. However, the utilization of groups does not only limit within the school system but also outside the system, where schools make linkages to other organizations. It depends on the head of school on how groups are utilized through careful planning and deliberate implementation of plans. Utilizing groups in a school system is necessary because [*why] unity is achieved once groups are well-managed. [Name of the Director] perceives all these when she assigns tasks to her subordinates and supervises them during implementation of plans. Interviewee’s Perceptions When asked about her knowledge of other groups used in the school system, [Name of the Director] shares her experiences in making various linkages within and outside the school. For her, linkages inside the school are vital in order to have unity and cooperation among all the members of the school system. Linkages within the school include the mutual effort of the administration and parents to help every student achieve the fullest of his/her potential, as well as the participation of teachers in the holistic growth of students. She also believes that since the school cannot stand on its own when it comes to solving eminent crisis affecting any of the school system’s functions, outside linkages are greatly wanted. Linkages to other public elementary schools, the community and neighborhood, various government sectors and even privately-owned organizations are helpful in order for the school to sustain its ability to function well. She knows that groups formulated in any organization have different roles to play in achieving goals. When asked which of the groups she would like to use, she abruptly says that all groups are necessary within any organization. However, being the director, she would rather strengthen the groups within the school system. Although outside linkages offer help, she cannot see the use of any help coming from the outside if the foundation inside the system is not that strong. She first chooses to utilize the groups within the school system because if the school is able to help itself, in the end, it can also offer help to others. If groups within the system already show harmony, unity and cooperation, the school will absolutely benefit from it. Benefits include a successful implementation of plans, an apparent feeling of trust within the system, and a never-ending commitment from teachers and students. My Own Perception and Reflection A group can comprise plenty of people with varied personalities, abilities and motivations, most especially, the groups in a school system where the attitudes of the administration differ significantly from teachers, and the perceptions of all people vary. Knowing these, I am thinking of utilizing groups based on principles. People with the same beliefs can understand each other more and would rather be in harmony than with those having opposite ideas on what they believed. I perceived grouping people according to commonality as an effective way to bring about harmonious relationships. However, if it is inevitable to have people of different views in one group, the challenge would be to let each other understand and appreciate each of their differences. Having analyzed this interview has given me the opportunity to learn that in order to utilize people, leaders must have the experience and knowledge. Since I might look at myself utilizing groups within the school system just like [Name of the Director], I should anticipate that it is not easy to manage diverse groups. Being a leader must go beyond participating members’ responsibilities in the organization; leaders must know how to utilize members effectively. Read More
