Extract of sample "Rust Belt and Detroit City"

Detroit used to be a motor city that gave birth to the auto industry in the United States.  It is in this location that great brands such as General Motors, Ford and Chrysler once dominated providing jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans.  It also attracted immigrants to the area because of the jobs that can be had in these motor companies.  At its height, Detroit was once the most prosperous city in America which provided most of the jobs to its 1.85 million residents in the 1950s.

Detroit however is no longer a motor city but has turned into a rust belt.  Legendary motor companies such as General Motors and Chrysler has filed for bankruptcy in 2009 due to the financial crisis and competition.  The city, once booming and teeming with the sound of industry creating world-class motor vehicles, suddenly turned into a desolate place where a lot of people looked depressed because they lost their jobs.
