Extract of sample "Web 2.0 and Beyond"

Web development and design that enhances communication and facilitates information sharing on the World Wide Web is termed as Web 2.0 technology. It is an enhancement system to the existing internet that makes web users to interact constructively in several ways. Simply put it refers to user-generated and read-write capabilities of the web. Web 2.0 technologies include wikis, blogs, social networking sites, video sharing sites. I have personally used social networking site like Facebook, which I found to be connection points with my friends.

In addition, I have used wikis and blogs as sources of knowledge and information. Generally, these technologies were more users friendly and one could learn and at same time make contribution. One thing which I disliked about these technologies was their lack of privacy.Web 2.0 technologies assimilation has led to both positive and negative impacts in life. One of their advantages is the ease of access of information and communication. These technologies have made information easily accessible from variety of sources.

They facilitate interaction at advanced levels through chatting in blogs, over social sites and video conferencing all of which have made communication nowadays more effective and efficient. The main disadvantage of web 2.0 technologies is over dependence amongst its users. This means that one is shut down in case of internet slow down or failure. Furthermore, there is lack of privacy and security of data shared due to susceptibility of hacking and plagiarism in case of literal information. Despite these disadvantages these technologies have currently been applied in fields like sales and marketing e.g. in second life and many others which have made life better.

On the contrary many users have fallen prey to hackers and grown excessively dependent on the internet. Thus it is inconclusive to state web 2.0 is a breakthrough.Web 3.0 refers to a proposed semantic web which will incorporate personalizations like. iGoogle, intelligent search and behavioral advertising with the objective of turning web into a database. Contrary to the past technologies it is infrastructural based. Web 3.0 will add more value to users since the technology will be with human capabilities of accurately and precisely determining information required, translating to more relevant information.

In addition, this may lead to massive loss of employment since most activities unlike currently will be automated. This will be caused by the human intelligence to be applied in webs 3.0 technologies (Hendler, 2010). Point of sale system refers to is the device where transactions which occur in a business are recorded. They form enhance accuracy of recording transactions and facilitate merging of various tasks within the business especially in accounting upon entry of a transaction into the system.

The hardware and software used for point of sale systems, is comparable to that of an electronic cash register. The system hardware requirements may include computers, wireless payment devices, printers, magnetic and barcode readers, safes, drawers pin pad with integrated card swipe, and credit card reader. On the other hand, POS application software may be either internally developed or bought over the counter such as Micros, PixelPoint and Radiant software installed in the server of the system.

Moreover, the operating system such as windows Xp, credit card authorization software and accounting software which are both installed in the client and server point.ReferencesHendler, James. (2010).
