Topic Leadership in Organizations What factors make Steve Jobs more charismatic than Tim Cook? Steve Jobs is a more charismatic leader than Tim Cooks due to the fact that he possesses attributes and personal abilities make him a charismatic leader. Some of those attributes includes great personal appearance, superb communication skills, and great interpersonal skills. “Charismatic leaders are those leaders who, by force of their personal abilities, are capable to have an extraordinary effect on followers” (Shermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, pg. 299). 2.

Can this gap be closed? Should Tim Cook try to close it to be a better leader? The gap between Tim Cook and Steve Jobs can be closed. A way for the gap to be closed is by Tim Cook taking advance training and development on how to become a more charismatic leader. Becoming a better leader is an important and worthy cause. Good leaders are able to motivate and improve the performance of the employees. 3. Does it matter? Can a less charismatic CEO be a successful leader? Being a charismatic leader can be beneficial, but charismatic leadership is not the only effective form of leadership.

Other leadership styles such as transformational and transactional leadership can help a manager lead a company in a productive manner. Behavioral theories and situational contingency theories can also be used by managers to improve leadership. Topic 2: Diversity in Organizations 1. Are diversity and innovation related? Workplace diversity is a critical driver of innovation in an organization. The reason that diversity helps foster innovation is because a diverse workforce is more creative than a homogeneous workforce.

The human resource department is responsible for hiring a diverse workforce composition within an enterprise. 2. Do you think that the most innovative companies are the most diverse? I believe that a lot of innovative companies have a diverse workforce. Due to the globalization movement many multinational firms operate in various countries simultaneously. These firms have to be adept at dealing with workforce diversity issues. Creativity within a workforce leads to product innovation. Topic3: Basic Motivational Concepts & Reward Systems Do you think that motivation is best fostered with extrinsic rewards such as money or do you think that organizations and leaders should strive to develop intrinsic motivation (love of job, making a difference, etc.)? I believe that the most effective motivator is the use of extrinsic rewards.

People at work are motivated by financial rewards. Some financial rewards often used by corporations include bonuses, commissions, and stock option plans. Intrinsic rewards can be effective as a secondary type of motivator. Topic 4: Advanced Motivation Concepts: Performance Management What, if anything, do you think can be done to make organizations more "asshole resistant?" A firm can become more “asshole resistant” by recruiting employees that have strong moral character. The implementation of a code of ethics can create standards of conduct that the employees of a company must follow.

High ethical conduct is desirable in all the business matters of the company. Topic 5: Careers & Career Management 1. How are you going to be distinctive? My distinctiveness is displayed in the way I behave and interact with other human beings. In the professional world I am trying to distinct myself from other applicants by earning a college education. I have a peculiar way of expressing myself that is different from other people. 2. How does a person manage an entrepreneurial career? An entrepreneurial career can be managed by the good use of time management.

Entrepreneurs have lots of responsibilities and job tasks to perform each day. Hiring good personnel can help an entrepreneur gain the support he needs to succeed in the business world.3. How does “Independence is Not an option, it is a must” mean to you? This phrase to me implies that businesspeople must have the liberty to make their own decisions. It is a tough challenge when a manager does not have the independence to make his own decisions due to the excessive intervention of the owner.
