The paper intends to explore the aspect of poverty in the USA by focusing on various aspects such as who are the poor and how they become poor even after the nation possessing a strong economy. Also, an evaluation of the determined common characteristics that led the people to turn into poor would be made on the basis of the sociological perspective. One of the prominent and pervasive social issues in the USA is poverty due to various sociological aspects. The nation has a mix of ethnicity and has people from the minority groups inhabiting in the national periphery who lack individualism due to a lack of attention and respect, they attain from the local civilization even in the 21st century.

The two largest minorities of the USA which include the African-Americans and the individuals of the Hispanic origin reflect the highest rate of poverty in the country. Furthermore, it has been observed that the rate of poverty in Hispanic origin is twice as compared to the non-Hispanic Whites in America due to the prevalence of discrimination on the basis of race and ethnicity in the society. The poor in America are especially not the Native Americans but the migrants such as the Somalia’s.

The race and ethnicity is one of the major reasons for poverty. It is fact that due to the changes in the social policies significant alterations have taken place in the level of income in the people of the minority. The people are expected to work hard to earn minimum income for their families. However, it is observed that the people from the black origin, facing racial decimation are not being able to meet the minimum level of income for their families. This leads to poverty as the people are not being provided a secure and free society for earning (Shaefer & Edwin, 2013).

Moreover, it is evidential that people of the minority groups are not being provided proper opportunity for education such as the Native Americans
