of the San Marcos Senior Center The organization that I have worked for is called San Marcos Senior Center. I settled in this job because I could not find any radiology job. In addition, I had in the past worked with both the children and youth centers. Therefore, I believed that this is another chance of having an experience with the senior people. The San Marcos Senior Center is located in the city of San Marcos where it serves its senior citizens. At this center, active adults are catered care of in regards to the resources, programs together with the programs that are geared to responding to their numerous and endless needs (San Marcos Senior Center 2). Apart from providing to the needs of the senior people, San Marcos Senior Center also, encourages the seniors to participate in the community activities that generate income whenever possible. Most importantly, San Marcos Senior Center also purposes at enhancing the dignity of the senior citizens with the aim of making them feel accepted and appreciated in the society. Apart from catering for the well-being of the senior individuals, San Marcos Senior Center also organizes and sponsors trips, tours, and vacations for the senior people (Diego 2). Mission of the San Marcos Senior Center The primary mission of the San Marcos Senior Center is to take care of the well-being of the senior citizens of the San Marcos Senior City. Its web site is http://www.ci.san-marcos.ca.us. From this mission, the organization is striving at making the senior citizens of the San Marcos City to be as comfortable as possible so that they could spend the remaining part of their lives in peace. The San Marcos Senior Center takes care of the nutrition, social, as well as the medication of the senior members. However, it must be noted that the organization values equality and integrity in the society with the aim of making them to be healthy as well as to be self-reliant (San Marcos Senior Center 4). Services being offered by the San Marcos Senior Center As a result, they strive at bridging the economic gap that poses a significant challenge to most of the senior members not only to the San Marcos City but also to the most of the societies across the world. To achieve this mission, San Marcos Senior Center participates in several income generating activities such as selling foodstuffs at affordable cost depending on the age of the customers. Specifically, they greatly subsidize foodstuffs for the elderly where $5 is enough to buy lunch for the individuals of age 59 years and younger. However, they are granted an opportunity of donating $4 for seniors above the age of 60 years. It is important to note that the San Marcos Senior Center offers not only a delicious lunch but also well-nourished one. Apart from the provision of the subsidized lunch, the San Marcos Senior Center also provide taxi voucher program to the senior citizens as a way of achieving their mission. In particularly, the San Marcos Senior Center provides taxi voucher that worth $80 for the senior citizens of the San Marcos City of an age exceeding 60 years. This voucher is only meant for the purposes of medical appointments. Apart from being a senior member of the San Marcos Senior City, another qualification for this voucher program is individuals with annual income that is less that $50,000. The voucher program is under the management f the San Marcos Senior Center Transportation Department (San Marcos Senior Center 5). Demographics of the San Marcos City From the data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, the San Marcos City is a race diverse city with multiple races residing in it. The majority of the race is whites that constituted a massive 78%. Black and black American has a combined population of 11.8% while American Indians contributed to 0.9% of the total population of the city. Moreover, Hispanics claimed 5.8% of the city. Strikingly, according to the data of research that was conducted in the year 2013, the city had a total population of 54,076 (City of San Marcos 4). The persons under the age of 5 years were 4.4% while the persons under 18 years were 14.2%. However, persons between the age of 18 and 60 contributed the majority of the city population by claiming a massive 63% of the population of the San Marcos City. Most importantly, the senior citizens of the age above sixty years were 6.7%. The same research also revealed that the ratio of males and female is evenly spread, but females have an edge by claiming 50.4%. Consequently, San Marcos Senior Center was instituted to address the needs of these senior citizens of the city (City of San Marcos 4). The efficacy and the impact of the San Marcos Senior Center San Marcos Senior Center has had a great impact on the lives of the San Marcos City residents especially the senior members. Notably, since its establishment, the lives of the senior members of the city have greatly improved. As a result, the lifespan of the senior citizens has greatly increased within the city. This is because; the center has been in the forefront in catering for their well-beings in regards to health, nutrition, and their social status. Apart from benefitting the senior citizens, San Marcos Senior Center has also improved the economy of the San Marcos City. This is because the Center has provided employment opportunities to the residents together with generating the revenue through taxation that is needed to develop further the city (Diego 3). In addition, San Marcos Senior Center has fostered harmonious coexistence among different age groups within the city. Most importantly, the center has sensitized the resident on the need to take care of the senior members for the well-being of the society. Moreover, the center has impacted the need for the virtue of donating to the destitute of the community. Organization structure of the San Marcos Senior Center The San Marcos Senior Center operates just like a non-governmental organization with a functional board of governors. The director who is assisted heads it by several departmental heads. However, the director is also the chairperson of the board of the managements. For the San Marcos, both well-wishers as well as the income that are generated from their economic activities that they undertake together with the private contributions are used to fund Senior Center. String fact about the departments of the San Marcos Senior Center is that they are managed professionally with the relevant professionals in each of the departments (San Marcos Senior Center 5). Recommendations on how to better services offered at the center I would recommend this organization to anyone who has a passion of working with the seniors of the society. However, personally, I would wish to work with them in future but my passion for the radiology does not allow me. As to my assessment, for the San Marcos Senior Center is fairing on well pertaining to the improving the overall well fare of the San Marcos City’s senior citizens. However, I would like to recommend the establishment of the boarding facilities with the aim of coming up with the senior citizen’s home. This is because there are some reported cases where the seniors are lacking people to look after them in there respective places of residence. As a result, they are experiencing some difficulties managing themselves. Apart from establishing senior citizens within the organization, I would recommend the organization to organize even for the dinner programs as way of increasing their sources of income as well as assisting the seniors who might not afford to obtain a reasonable supper on their own. However, I would not restrict myself in radiology because based on my experiences; I would also fit in other fields that deal with taking care of children as well as the elderly in society. Most importantly, I would recommend myself to exercise professionalism, ethics, and boundary in all of my responsibilities during my career life. Works cited Diego, San.
