Importance of Tourism Industry in Australia Though if compared to many other international tourist destinations Australia still tends to lag behind when it comes to accessing the tourist footfall, tourism still plays a viable and important role in assuring the Australian economic growth and facilitating job creation (Australian Bureau of Statistics 1). Thereby, tourist industry in Australia demands much more importance and resource dedication. It contributes immensely to the national wealth and creates thousands of jobs annually.

In the financial period 2003-2004, tourist sector contributed nearly 4 percent of the Australian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (Australian Bureau of Statistics 1). Australian tourist industry commanded nearly twelve percent of the total Australian exports and employed roughly 5.6 percent of the overall Australian workforce in the same financial period (Australian Bureau of Statistics 1). In the financial period 1997-98, international tourists visiting Australia consumed nearly $12.8 billion-worth services and goods (Australian Bureau of Statistics 1). . wing to the gargantuan importance of the tourist sector to the Australian economy that in the year 1983, Australia created the Department of Sport, Recreation and Tourism (Australian Bureau of Statistics 1).

The successive governments in Australia have identified tourist industry as a high growth area that needs to attract immense amount of investment and input. Australia-An Attractive Tourist Destination Australia offers domestic and international tourists a wide range of tourist experiences. Australian tourist industry commands an immense potential to the extent that today it is a topic of great academic importance, and varied hospitality institutions around the world do pay ample tribute to the Australian tourist sector.

Tourists from around the world tend to visit Australia, attracted by the unique natural beauty of the country, which includes expansive coral reef ecosystems, quiet and enchanting deserts, a vibrant indigenous heritage and thriving tropical forests (Colley 10). Thereby, the promoters of the Australian tourism, both within and outside Australia, happen to have an endless range of features on their menu to offer to their potential customers. Besides the added features that bolster tourist industry in Australia, this country happens to be a relatively safe tourist destination with good setup and well-maintained infrastructure (Colley 21).

Impact of the Tourism Industry in Australia It would not be wrong to say that tourism has an immense impact on the overall built environment in Australia.
